Chairman's Chat

Many SE members were at the official launch of HRGB's 50th anniversary year at Exeter in April. The region has been presented with its Golden Anniversary teddy bears and county reps are now co-ordinating their travels. I have already seen several photos of ringers with the bears on our Facebook page, and am looking forward to seeing many more.

Forms are now available for the Golden Anniversary celebrations on October 7th. We would like as many ringers as possible to join in the celebrations at one of these events! We have a number of events scattered around the region and these are subsidised for members so no-one need travel too far or pay too much. Some are invitation-only as their venues have limited capacity, but the rallies at Benson, Cobham and Petham are open to all.

Massed ringing will include the Golden Jubilee winning competition pieces which are free to teams at one copy per HRGB member. Non-members are welcome to join us, but will have to purchase these pieces at a cost of 1 each. So if some of your team are not yet members, why not encourage them to join?

New members who join from the beginning of July will have a number of benefits including members' prices for all events in the half year to December, one edition of Reverberations, extra team copies of the Regional Newsletter (shared) and a copy of each of the winning competition pieces for their team as well as helping to support HRGB in its work of advancing musical handbell ringing - all for just 6.

By the time you read this, Whitechapel Bell Foundry will have completed its move from its historic site. You can read full details of the new arrangements on their website, www.whitechapelbellfoundry.co.uk, and see some pictures of the move on Twitter @whitechapelbell. The sale of handbells and other small bells, music and accessories will continue from Bells of Whitechapel Ltd. The archives will now be available to the public for research as they are contracted to the London Metropolitan Archive.

I am sure all readers will wish to join me in wishing Alan Hughes a long and happy retirement and thanking him and Kathryn for all their support over the years.

Best Wishes

Gay Cooper
